Freezer Smoothie Bags
I love a smoothie. But oftentimes, it just feels like too much work: ensuring I have all the ingredients on hand, remembering proportions, chopping fruit, and ultimately making a mess of my kitchen. A few years ago, I set out to simplify the process. My solution: freezer smoothie bags.
One afternoon of prep yields easy and fresh smoothies for weeks! There are a million ways to make a smoothie, but I’ve shared my go-to method below.
Ingredients (for 1 serving)
1 cup fruit (strawberries, bananas, blueberries, mango, pineapple, raspberries, etc.)
1 handful of spinach
1 yogurt cube (freeze yogurt in an ice cube tray)
1 cup liquid (I use 1/2 orange juice 1/2 water)
One serving = 16 oz
I recommend making freezer smoothie bags for 1-3 servings. Simply double the ingredients for 2 servings (32 oz) or triple the ingredients for 3 servings (48 oz). Too many servings will overfill your blender.
Recipe
To create Smoothie Freezer Bags:
Combine desired fruit, spinach, and yogurt cube(s) into a freezer bag.
Seal tightly and label with the date.
Store in freezer for up to 2 months.
When ready to blend:
Empty freezer bag into your blender, making sure to separate the frozen pieces.
Add liquid to your blender and let it sit with the frozen mixture for a few minutes to thaw.
Blend, adding more liquid as needed until desired consistency.
